My name is Andy and I am a fanatic of nature and yoga! I have always felt at home in wild places; but over the past few years, a profound passion for wilderness travel has led me to explore and immerse myself in the splendor of nature in various parts of the world.
During this time, I also developed a proportionately strong passion for yoga. As with hiking and backpacking, the ancient practice of yoga provides nourishment for my soul. Whether high above civilization gazing upon the stars shooting across the night sky, or on my mat tuning in to my breath and moving through asanas, these pursuits help me cultivate steadiness, while simultaneously making me feel whole and connected.
Okay – so why backpack the John Muir Trail? In the summer of 2011, a few friends and I backpacked from Onion Valley to Whitney Portal, a ~50 mile trek punctuated by summiting Mt. Whitney – the highest peak in the lower 48 states. Every dusty, rocky, wet, snowy step on the trail was pure bliss! I knew I wanted to hike the length of the JMT before I got to Whitney portal. In truth, my JMT hike was better than I could have ever imagined.
I love it.
I had the time of my life.
I am confident my body is capable of longer thru-hikes and hope to hike the 2,660 mile Pacific Crest Trail in 2016. Thank you for being part of my journey :)

p.s. – YogiHiker is not my trail name. I have yet to acquire a trail name as of this posting (11/3/14).
Hey Andy, this is great! Keep us posted. Congratulations, and Namaste. -- Marc (from Joy's old 3:00 class)
ReplyDeleteMark!! Great to hear from you. Thank you very much for your support. Hope you are happy and well. Namaste
DeleteBest wishes on your trip and thanks for the beautiful website and for sharing your experiences!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna!
DeleteAndy, I will be doing the JMT about a week after you! Just wondering how your combination of the Thermawrap vest and EX light jacket are working for you. I currently have the the EX but am debating whether or not to add the Thermawrap vest.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Scott
Hi Scott,
DeleteI decided a few days ago not to use the vest. My long sleeve wool base layer, long sleeve nylon shirt, Ex jacket & OR rain shell work great.
Hope you have an awesome hike!
Andy, I've been following your journal entries from the trail and am find them fascinating. I'm really wanting to do the JMT some day.
ReplyDeleteMy advice Seth is...do it!! Make the time to make it happen. You won't regret it. Happy trails.
